Are peelz hard to apply?
Yes and no (how's that for a straight answer?). Since apeelz are a "wet apply" film, they are far more forgiving and easier to apply than standard dry adhesive film. And, there are simple steps that can be taken to help make it a smooth procedure:
- Read the application instructions completely before starting.
- Follow the directions. Completely. Really, do it like it reads.
- If you are applying more than one piece, start with the smallest one first.
- And, most of all, be careful and be patient.
With that said, the biggest factor of how the experience will go for you, is you. If you are good with your hands and like to tinker, it should go well for you. If you have 10 thumbs on one hand, we suggest finding a friend to apply apeelz for you.
When you say that peelz are harder to apply to Black MacBooks than other Mac mobiles, just how hard are we talking about?
When applying peelz to BlackBooks, more water has to be used, and therefore, more time applying and squeegeeing the water out. This is due to the fact that the black finish that Apple applies is rubberized and creates micro pockets for the air bubbles to stick to. If more time and water are used, then the peelz usually apply very well. And, if you don't mind a bubble or two, then it's no different than applying them from any other Mac mobile.
Why do some peelz sets have a strange combination of pieces?
Sets are laid out on sheets to best make use of every square inch (allowing us to sell them as cost-effectively as we can). Which sometimes leaves odd-size spaces open. So, we fit what we can and send as much as we can to you without having to raise the price.
Can I take off peelz after I've applied them?
apeelz will stay very securely in place until you peel them off.
But when you want them off, simply lift up enough of a corner to get a good grip with a finger nail and peel off very slowly. If pulled off to quickly, you may notice a bit of residue is left. Any mild solvent (Goo Gone® is perfect) will remove it and after that there will be no sign that you ever had apeelz applied (except that it will have fewer nicks and scratches, of course).
How often will my peelz need to be replaced?
Depends on how rough you are on your Mac. Our experience is that they got scuffed to a point where we wanted to replace them after more than a year of pretty rough use. If you baby your Mac and don't mind the occasional scratch on the film, they could last for the life of the computer.
What is "self-healing" film?
It is a type of plastic that has properties allowing light scratches to smooth back out all by itself. We did really, really badly in Chem 101, but we can tell you it does work.
Do apeelz void my warranty?
Nope. Your warranty is fine. We have sent several Books to Apple for warranty repair with no problems, and three Apple Geniuses have confirmed that there is nothing about peelz that voids your warranty.
I don't feel comfortable putting the peelz on...can you do it for me?
We're looking for ways to add that service, but right now, between shipping your Mac to us, our having to charge to you to apply the peelz and the cost of shipping it back you, it just isn't a "cost-attractive" service to offer.
Can I reapply apeelz?
If you are applying them, don't like the way they went down, and want to reapply, you can if they have not dried. You can even put them back on the backing to apply later.
If they have completely dried to the surface of your Mac, they will stretch (and tear) too much to reapply.
